Refund Policy

We’re committed to delivering accurate transaction categorization and balance reconciliation for your crypto accounts. Our service focuses on organizing your provided data— we do not prepare taxes or provide tax advice. To ensure fairness, we offer refunds only in limited cases where we haven’t met our commitments. In other situations, we’ll work with you to correct issues promptly at no extra cost. We reserve the right to update this policy at any time.

When You Can Get a Refund

Refunds are available only in these specific scenarios:

  • Before we begin any work on categorizing your transactions or reconciling balances, if you cancel within 7 days of initial payment.
  • If we fail to perform any work at all after payment (e.g., no categorization or reconciliation initiated).
  • If we add a wallet or exchange to your account that you did not confirm as yours, resulting in material overpayment or underpayment of taxes (as determined by a qualified tax advisor).
  • If we manually enter transaction data that you did not confirm, is not verified by a public block explorer, and is not solely for balance reconciliation purposes, resulting in material overpayment or underpayment of taxes (as determined by a qualified tax advisor).
  • If you were charged incorrectly (e.g., billing errors).

Refunds for Review Options

We offer two review options (e.g., standard review and advanced review) as add-ons to verify our categorization work. Refunds for these are strictly limited to:

  • If no review work has been completed at all.
  • If the refund is requested before any review work begins, within 7 days of payment for the review option.

Refunds for review options are limited to the fees paid for that specific add-on and do not extend to the core service fees.

All refunds (including for review options) are limited to the fees paid for the affected services and do not include any consequential costs, such as tax penalties or advisory fees.

Non-Refundable Items

To protect the value of our work and encourage thorough client review, the following are non-refundable:

  • Consultation or onboarding fees.
  • Any work already completed, including partial categorization, reconciliation, or reports delivered.
  • Third-party software, tools, or integration fees.
  • Cryptocurrency transaction, banking, or exchange fees.
  • Any reports or categorized data that you have reviewed, accepted, or approved (e.g., via email confirmation or portal sign-off).

Once you accept or approve our work, all liability shifts to you, and no refunds will be issued for issues arising thereafter.

Exclusions and Client Responsibilities

We are not responsible for, and no refunds will be issued for:

  • Errors or inaccuracies resulting from data you provide, omit, or fail to update during intake or reconciliation.
  • Issues stemming from your incorrect or incomplete responses to our clarification questions.
  • Calculations, outputs, or discrepancies generated by third-party tax software programs we integrate with (e.g., errors in how the software computes gains/losses).
  • Overpayments, underpayments, or other tax impacts due to settings in your tax software (e.g., cost basis methods or filing elections), which are your sole responsibility in consultation with your tax advisor.
  • Errors materially affecting tax calculations that arise from inaccuracies in tax years not covered by our service (e.g., prior-year data omissions leading to carryover issues).
  • Minor discrepancies, market volatility, or non-material impacts that do not affect the core categorization and reconciliation we provide.

By using our services, you agree to review all work promptly and confirm its accuracy based on your records.

How to Request a Refund

  • Email matt@cryptotaxmadeeasy.com within 14 days of the issue arising (or initial payment for cancellations). For review options, requests must be within 7 days as specified above.
  • Complete our Refund Request Form and provide details, including evidence of the issue (e.g., confirmation emails or tax advisor statements). In the form, you’ll acknowledge your data responsibilities and any approvals given.
  • We’ll review and respond within 5-7 business days, approving if eligible or discussing corrections/alternatives if not.

Refund Processing

  • Approved refunds will be processed within 7 business days.
  • Refunds will be issued via your original payment method and will be minus any processing fees (if applicable).
  • For crypto payments, refunds are based on the original exchange rate at the time of payment.

Limitations of Liability

Our total liability for any claims related to our services is limited to the fees you paid us in the 3 months prior to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, tax penalties, audits, or regulatory issues, even if advised of the possibility. This applies regardless of the legal theory (e.g., contract, negligence).

We provide our services “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. While we strive for accuracy, final tax outcomes depend on your complete data, software settings, and professional advice—we disclaim all responsibility for these.
