We had an enormous about of onchain crypto transactions that needed reconciling, across hundreds of wallets and exchanges. We hired Crypto Tax Made Easy to organize and reconcile all of our transactions and accounts, in order to have an honest and optimized set of reports for submitting our tax return(s).
In addition, we were moving businesses from overseas back to Australia, and we needed help finding the cost basis for all of our digital assets.

Friends, I just have to give a tremendous shout out to Matty Before he touched my transactions, I owed tens of thousands of dollars (it was scary) I definitely had auto mislabeled items from koinly, though truth be told, I’m busy AF with work and family that I had no time to do it myself The biggest advantage that I had by having Matty do the reconciliation is that he knows the contracts and history of the ecosystem Therefore, he knew where to look and what transactions pertained to what events Now, I don’t know about you, but he is a damn wizard at this and spent several hours for what would have taken me days (trust me…he was kind enough to let me see a few mins of his work while he asked me a few questions on some of the txs) Not only did I feel a huge weight off my shoulders but I went from what would have been an incredibly HUGE tax bill to a significant credit (with the accounting done very conservatively) The cognitive burden that was unloaded was worth the price alone! Excellent service and well worth the money. Matt is easy to work with, can do everything for you, or get you started so you can do it yourself going forward. I had him do everything for me – about 3000 transactions from late last year to the present, because I had made so many unnecessary transactions. I had a lot of trouble at first understanding how to characterize the farming/harvesting, moving into and out of LPs, a few pre-sales and related emissions. Once I saw how these should be characterized, it finally made some sense. He was also able to match Tin.network balances with Koinly pretty closely, which I would have never been able to do. He turned a big capital gain (from my initial cut, which I knew was way off) into a big capital loss that will minimize taxes for next year. A huge headache was lifted.

We checked 802 crypto tax reports. Every one needed correction.
We re-did 802 crypto tax reports for 304 investors. For every report we compared what the software said against what our reconciliation team found. Here is what changed once a human expert checked the work.
Internal US client study of 304 clients and 802 client-year reports. Clients self-selected for reconciliation, so the dataset is not representative of all crypto software users or future clients. Twenty-five incomplete client entries were excluded. Capital-gains corrections are not tax savings. Tax, penalty, and interest figures are modelled estimates under the stated assumptions; individual results vary and may be zero.
Two ways crypto tax software costs you money.
All 802 reports had at least one material error. Every correction fell into one of two buckets.
The software overstated gains, usually from missing cost basis, double-counted transactions, mispriced assets, or transfers treated as taxable events. Left uncorrected, those overstated gains could increase the client’s modelled federal tax amount.
The software understated gains, usually around DeFi activity, wallet-to-wallet transfers, and on-chain income that never made it into the report. The reconciliation identified the omitted activity in these historical reports.
Historical fees compared with modelled benefits.
In these historical cohorts, 62% of single-year clients and 64% of multi-year clients had modelled tax savings at least equal to their fee. Some clients had smaller savings or none.
Among 82 single-year clients in this internal US dataset, the median modelled benefit was approximately $4,874, compared with a fee of approximately $2,100. The average was substantially higher because a small number of large corrections pulled it upward. 62% had modelled tax savings at least equal to their fee; some had smaller savings or none.
Among 222 multi-year clients in this internal US dataset, the median modelled benefit was approximately $8,753 across a median of three tax years, compared with a fee of approximately $3,300. The average was substantially higher because a small number of large corrections pulled it upward. 64% had modelled tax savings at least equal to their fee; some had smaller savings or none.
Estimated reconciliation workload handled for the client, based on 50 transactions reviewed per hour. This is a processing-time estimate, not measured client time saved.
Based exclusively on Crypto Tax Made Easy’s internal US client dataset: 304 clients and 802 client-year reports, tax years 2021 to 2026. Twenty-five incomplete client entries were excluded. This was my first year with crypto taxes, I was dreading it when I saw the number of transactions and the figure Koinly first produced. I watched lots of vids, read articles, but I knew things were still labelled wrong and needed fixing to get things "right" for future accuracy. The vids and docs are short and precise and they helped a great deal to recognise patterns and make much needed changes. Most people were able to reduce their tax liability by large amounts. Here's what I love about it. – There is a document that says "Listen. There's a bunch of stuff you CAN do, but let's just focus on the 80% of stuff that takes 20% of the effort". I was like WOW.
